Jenny Odle Madden hears our voices.

To say Voices of the South is a “regular” theater company is kind of like saying Jenny Odle Madden, the company’s co-founder and executive producer, is a “regular” actress. A reader, storyteller, dancer, teacher and mom, Madden has turned her passion for original theatre and Southern literature into a 12-year-old company of seven actors that produces everything from plays based on Southern short stories to a springtime Children’s Theatre Festival to the Southern-fried antics of the deaconess from hell, Sister Myotis—all of it original. Jenny admits she could have left for New York or Chicago long ago, but “I love Memphis. We want to be a resource for the community,” she says. “We want to find an authentic Southern voice.”
